A brief history of me
Jul. 13th, 2009 05:32 pmFor those who may be new, or those who may have forgotten...
My name is Kerrie, or Kez for short. Kezuki comes from my former obsession with anime and manga, and I don't remember where Kezbat came from. I think I needed a username for summat and just shoved bat on the end.
I am Northern Irish. I can't claim to be either British or Irish despite what my passport claims, because I don't feel like either. This lack of a national identity confuses me immensely. The only coherent argument is that I am both and neither.
I am 27 years old, occupied as an office monkey in Belfast, working with benefit fraud for the London area, and live with my mum and my cat in a tiny place we call Cowtown. I commute a round trip of 100 miles a day to work, meaning I spend much of my time on trains. This is okay, as it gives me more time to read. You'd think I'd move, but my mum would be on her own then, and my cat is here.
I went to university when I was 18. Despite obtaining a degree in English and History, it was an unmitigated disaster, the degree has been no use to me, and my top advice for anyone struggling is: don't be afraid to drop out if you realise you picked the wrong subject and go back when you figure out the right one. I'm now studying psychology with the Open University with a view to one day being a psychologist of some kind.
I define myself as bisexual. I have been single for more years than I should admit to, nearly 5. I recently gave up looking for love, on the basis of getting far too wound up about it and if it bloody wants me it knows where I am. I have the requisite string of disastrous previous relationships, including an ill-advised go at polyamory. This is recommended to exactly no-one who may feel jealousy- so it's recommended to exactly no-one.
I am currently recovering from major depression, which lasted at least a year and a half and has involved countless doctors, psychologists, counsellors, a mental health crisis team, a hospital and infinite patience from my poor friends and family. I'm taking medication and will be for the foreseeable future. One of the things I'd like to achieve in life is to help lessen the stigma that comes with mental health problems- they are nothing to be ashamed of. I just wish I'd known that before my life stopped working totally.
My great loves in life are hockey, comedy, music, and learning. I will read anything and love knowing why things happen or how stuff works. My hockey team at home is the Edinburgh Capitals- I dumped the Belfast Giants for cheating- and in the NHL I'm a San Jose Sharks fan, seeing the Buffalo Sabres and the Boston Bruins on the side. My music tastes are either jingly-jangly indie-schmindie or epic pop music. Favourite band is Throwing Muses. Favourite comedian I cannot answer because we'll be here for daaays.
I love tea. I don't drink alcohol. My favourite place is Edinburgh. I have an interest in news and politics even if I don't always feel clever enough to understand.
Like most people, I will argue that my friends are the best in the world.
Anything else, feel free to ask. :)
