This man is my hero.

Former Wales and Lions captain Gareth Thomas has broken one of the major taboos that surround sport by revealing he is gay.

That takes bravery. And he came out to The Daily Mail, for fuck's sake.

Of course I should be writing "well it doesn't matter who he's attracted to does it", but the world's not quite there yet. Maybe we'll get there a little bit quicker with this.

I already loved Alfie, now i lve him even more. What an absolute legend.

Still an awesome try-scorer in his mid thirties and now this. It's been an open secret for a long time that he'd left his wife for a man but to tell the Daiy Mail that musy have been the biggest decision of his life.

Hope he's playing on New Year's day, though it will make it even harder not to cheer the Blues than t alreadywill be ;)

also, in reference to your comment that the world's not ready for 'it doesn;t matter ho he's attracted to, does it?' i think that what this story has really shown is that in the Rugby world, at least in Wales and the retired squad on Twitter, it really is. Stephen and Nugget's quoted "we don;t care, but why didn't you tell us before?" Johnno's "don't worry I think i know what's wrong, and i'm going to make sure you've got all the support you need and the fact that pretty much everyone who cares about Welsh Rugby has known about this for a few years and the levels of respect for him have continiued to rise dispite the fact he hadn't officially come out is testament to this. Alfie is wonderful, as are his boyz.
